I love a good pun.

I was intrigued when I walked by the break room at The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center in Covington, Kentucky, and saw a TON of little Barbie Heads. I inquired about the heads, and I was told that I was welcome to make Barbie over in any way that I wanted.

Challenge accepted.

So, after thinking it over for a while, driving her around, and then a whole lot of procrastinating, I decided to make Barbie into a ginger. Get it?

Her plastic hair is under the wool, and the wool is felted into her hair. Then it was painted with watered-down acrylic, and alpaca fibers were added to give details.

This process has been so much fun, and I can’t wait to see what the other artists do to their Barbies. On January 15th at The Carnegie, artist and stylists will show their creations. All Barbie heads will be up for sale, with sales benefitting The Carnegie.

If they look fuzzy in the picture… that’s because they are!

These little weeble-wobble Christmas trees are a fun little item to make! As are all of my felted artworks, they’re needle-felted from 100% wool. They are decorated with vintage buttons from my secret stash.

I’ve also created a number of ornaments again this year. I’m selling them at Brazee Street Studios and I’m hoping to pop a few into the Etsy store.

Clearly, my aesthetic veers toward the vintage. Heck, I didn’t even like Christmas until I started collecting vintage ornaments and decorations. But, I’m all about helping others enjoy their holidays, and I hope that my work can help.

I’m excited to share some of my artwork with you. I’ve been felting for about four years now, and I’ve created utilitarian items such as coasters and trivets to little felted animal heads.

I’ll be posting more pictures of my work-in progress and in its complete state. The holidays are coming up, and I’m working on some ornaments and some adorable little weeble-wobble Christmas trees.

More later-it’s time to read. I’m a indie children’s bookseller/events planner by day, and I’m into this book right now. I’ll letcha know what I think when I’m all done.
